The idea

The idea of the After Abi Mission was born 3 years ago.

My friend Philip and me, Florian, two ambitionated 15 year old, wanted to travel the world looking for perfect waves.

In 2008 I came back from a trip to Northern Peru, where I surfed the 2nd longest wave in the world: Chicama...I told my friend Philip storys abouth two minute rides on the same wave... "We will surf it after we graduate from school"

In the German school system the graduational title is called "Abitur": So the "After Abi Mission" was born.

In November 2011 the months to get our Abitur were counted. We sat down together with my friend Denis at my place in Tenerife to realize the idea... With great iniciative it did not last 2 weeks and we got our first tickets to Malaysia and Australia, as we found them for a third of the usual price, still with our great objective to go to Peru afterwards.

Looking for 1 months every afternoon for tickets to get there, we finally got cheap ones across the Pacific, from Indonesia, over Bangkok, Los Angeles and Miami to Guayaquil in Ecuador, just 3 hours to the perfect Surfspots in Northern Peru...Thats how the surftrip to Peru turned into a voyage around the World over 5 continents in 8 months continuing from Peru south to Chile and Argentina, and finally to South Africa, returning home via Quatar and Barcelona in April...

Living dreams !

La idea de la
After Abi Mission (Misión Después del Abi) nació hace 3 años.

Viviendo
sueños !

at the Central Coast

After our stay in Woolgoolga we headed (how not) south to the Central Coast, just 1h north from Sydney... We stayed at the house from Brodie, a friend of us, who was travelling on the Canary Islands at that time (so basically we changed homes haha), so we met his family, who received us with supergreat Australian hospitality ! The day after we arrived we met at their house to have a huge barbecue ! It had everything what you wish on a bbq ! We ate potato bake, steak, garlic bread, snacked feta with crackers, drank icecold beer, tasty olives, sausages; we could not get enough !
We had not laughed so much in ages ! It was incredible, how much fun we had...
We kept telling our crazy travel stories until late in the night...
I learned that theres a steak in every beer, too ( viva Brodies dad and Tooheys Draught ! )

We ended up staying at Brodies house for 2 nights... We had not been in a real house for lots of weeks, and it was pure luxury to be able to use a hot shower and a kitchen.
It was great to share those days with the family...
When we left, Brodies brother Max, gave us 2 boards of him. That was more than generous.

Mid of October we were in Angourie (Australian East Coast) and ran out of petrol (for the 5th time at least).
Discussing to find a solution at the side of the road a men showed up with his van and asked us if we had problems... It did not last a few minutes and I hopped into his car to drive into town to get some fuel.
He turned out to be a hunter. And not any kind of: He had a huge dead reptil and a living snake in the back of his car. He also hunts Kangoroos and sharks. The same night we stayed at his house and went out fishing at some lake. At midnight we pulled out the fish and fried it cross ! It was awesome ! The next days he tought us how to pick Oysters. We got heaps and cooked them over the fire. He was truly a survivor kind of guy...
When Robin said to him that he is like Bear Grillz, he told us that people use to call him Bear Kills... Quite an appropiate name !
In the next days he showed us, where to find work on a blueberry farm...
We did not think twice and drove south towards Woolgoolga and picked fruit for about 10 days.
It was hard but money does not come from elsewhere...
After we finished our labour in the fields we headed further south to the Central Coast and afterwards to Sydney, but that is another story...
Enjoy the photos !

After our stop in the rainforest about a month ago we drove to a lovely place, called Byron Bay...
We stayed there 2 entire weeks, looking for jobs and surfing good waves. Some idle evening Francesco (22years old from Brescia, Italy) approached our parked car and we started talking. The next day he started travelling with us. He has been in Australia for 8 months (3 months in Southeastasia before that) and has still two more years to work and travel around the world, planning to go to Latin America after New Zealand.
Here is some nice footage from our time there...
We had an awesome session at the legendary spot Lennox Head; the waves were big, glassy and peeling perfectly down the point until midday, Dolphins were crossing our way on the paddle out, popping out of the water in large groups.
The atmosphere in Byron is fantastic, people walk around on the streets and approach you as a friend, just to tell you that you are a young beautiful human being, everybody is truly friendly to each other, it is just amazing... you walk barefoot,too... Something that I do now even here in Sydney. I love it.
We had some good nights, always inviting random people from around the world into our little home on wheels. We had a great time.
Byron is the most easterly point of Australia; the sun rises at 5am, coming out of the big blue Pacific Ocean. Sitting in the water you feel the nature around you, like nowhere else: You spot a dolphin from time to time and far out in the sea you see the big whales making huge sprays when coming out onto the surface...
Every surf session is an experience here in OZ... We defenitely fell in love with this country !
Cheers from Down Under boys....

Me encanta.
